Wildfires are currently burning across Los Angeles County with tens of thousands prompted to evacuate their homes. According to the Los Angeles Times, this is “one of the most destructive firestorms to hit the region in memory.”
These Southern California wildfires are still not contained at the time of writing, and many are asking how they will impact Disneyland's operations. Universal has now shared that they will be closing today due to these fires. We will share everything you need to know below…
Our thoughts are with all who are affected by these fires and the firefighters who have been working tirelessly to contain them.

Will the Los Angeles Fires Impact Disneyland?
Universal Studios Hollywood issued a statement on X this morning sharing “Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk will be closed today as a result of the extreme winds and fire conditions. We will continue to assess the situation and expect to open for business tomorrow. The safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority.”
The fires currently active in the area are the Palisades fire, the Eaton fire near Altadena and Pasadena, and the Hurst fire in Sylmar. The Palisades fire started burning at around 10:30 am yesterday and has burned nearly 3,000 acres.
The Disneyland Resort is further southeast to the areas currently impacted by the fires. The closest fire is roughly 35 miles away from the Disneyland Resort. You can see the map of the fires on the Fire Watch app below.
Though Disneyland isn't in the area impacted by the fires, the winds are obviously still very strong and impactful. Currently there is not smoke in the air at Disneyland though that could change. Generally the air quality has been clear in Southern California which is a result of the strong winds which are spreading the fire.
Looking at the weather app for the Disneyland Resort, you can see a High Wind warning in effect currently.
We expect that we may see some rides close due to the high winds in Disney California Adventure especially (like Golden Zephyr and potentially Silly Symphony Swings for example), and depending on how long these windy conditions last, we may also see World of Color's showing canceled this evening.
Be aware that some airports are being impacted so be sure to check travel plans if you are flying into the parks. Some roads will also be severely impacted. Check ahead if you are planning on driving in today. Note that we've heard that Burbank Airport is grounding some flights.
We've heard from some readers that they are reconsidering trips to Southern California to avoid the gridlock in Los Angeles and the potential smoky air quality that may come as the winds die down.
If you are staying outside of Anaheim contact your hotel to see how this may impact your trip.
