The new attraction will operate exclusively during Universal Fan Fest Nights 2026. The after-hours special event at Universal Studios Hollywood in California brings pop-culture fandoms to life with exclusive immersive experiences.

Scooby-Doo Meets The Universal Monsters: Mystery on the Backlot begins with guests riding the trams that Universal uses during the daytime for the Studio Tour. In the story, guests have been cast as extras in a new monster movie.

Inevitably, things go haywire and “real” Universal Monsters take over, forcing guests to disembark the trams! From here, the attraction becomes part exploratory, walk-through adventure and part live theater. It all unfolds on Universal Studios Hollywood's backlot, where Mystery, Inc. enlists guests' help.

Using a “Mystery Manual,” guests help Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Velma, Fred, and Daphne thwart Frankenstein's Monster, Dracula, and The Bride of Frankenstein.

Adding to the coolness factor, the walk-through portion of the adventure takes place on the real sets of 1931's Frankenstein and 1941's Dracula films.

If the experience is anything like Universal Fan Fest Nights 2025's signature tram experience, which focused on Back to the Future, this new Scooby-Doo attraction is likely to be a home run with guests.

Scooby-Doo in Universal Theme Parks

Even though he belongs to a franchise owned by Warner Bros., Scooby-Doo has been present in Universal theme parks for a long time. However, he's never had his own starring attraction.

The closest Scooby came to his own Universal ride was a featured role in The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera, a simulator that closed decades ago at Universal Studios Florida.

Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Velma, Fred, and Daphne greet guests regularly at both Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood, often driving around in the Mystery Machine. A Scooby-Doo haunted house has been on many fans' wish lists for Halloween Horror Nights for years.

We're excited to see how Universal executes Scooby-Doo Meets The Universal Monsters: Mystery on the Backlot at Universal Fan Fest Nights. These events continue to introduce experiences that defy traditional labels and don't really fit into any singular genre of theme park attraction. This kind of reinvention is a positive for the entire industry, and it could lead to even more creatively risky experiences in the future at Universal parks and neighboring competitors, like Disneyland.
