Dole Whip is undoubtedly one of the most iconic treats you’ll find at the Disney Parks, and it’s beloved for very good reason. While you can find Dole Whip at the parks and other Disney destinations like Disney on Ice and Disney cruises, as well as some non-Disney locations like your local county fair, it can sometimes be easier said than done to get your hands on this treat. Personally, I crave it all the time, and I know I’m not alone!
The last time we investigated the packaged Dole Whip from Costco, we liked it fine, but it didn’t quite live up to the taste of the Dole Whips straight from the parks. Now, the packaged Dole Whip has been reformulated, and I have to say I’m surprised by the result. If you tried the previous iteration of this packaged treat, you’ll definitely want to read this. Keep reading for our honest thoughts and review…

NEW Recipe Costco Dole Whip Review
In our previous Costco Dole Whip review, we talked about the lack of that tart pineapple flavor that makes Dole Whip so iconic. In the former version of this packaged treat, the pineapple flavor was overpowered by a stronger coconut flavor, and it had a bit of a strange metallic aftertaste.
Now, Dole has released a new, updated recipe for the packaged Dole Whip. This new recipe of Dole Whip Pineapple is available now at select Costco locations, and it will be rolling out to other grocery stores nationwide this summer. I believe this is the first time this has been reported.
There are some things that are staying the same, including that it’s still dairy and gluten-free, but now there are some changes to the texture and flavor. Unlike the previous version, there’s no wait time to enjoy (though we do recommend still letting it soften a little bit), and they aimed to soften the texture and address the overpowering coconut flavor.
The Dole Whip comes in 4-packs of 3.6 oz cups (8-packs sold in Costco), and it’s available in Pineapple and Mango flavors. Here is a look at the individual cup.
I was kind of shocked when I first tried the first bite of this. The rest was gone pretty quickly after that. It tasted (to me, at least) like the Dole Whip straight from the parks! That perfectly tart pineapple flavor is definitely there. I’ve tried it twice now, and I was just as impressed the second time.
The texture is not perfect, but that is not a deal-breaker for me. Of course, it’s a frozen packaged product, so realistically, the texture is never going to be super comparable to what it is at the parks where is comes out of a soft serve. Personally, I think it works fine, as the flavor is really the star of the show anyhow! Even though there’s no advised amount of time to let the product sit, I do recommend leaving it out for a few minutes (if you can wait) so that it melts just a little bit.
We were invited to a virtual tasting event with Dole and sent this new version of the treat to try. At the tasting, they acknowledged that the main problem with the previous version was that it was pretty strictly tied down to health and wellness guidelines, so it had to contain coconut cream, be sweetened with honey, etc. For this new version, they allowed themselves to depart a little bit from these guidelines with the aim of increasing the pineapple flavor and improving the texture. I would say this definitely paid off!

Chef James Bickmore-Hutt of Dole shared his thoughts on what they aimed to improve with this new iteration: “We are very appreciative of the valuable, honest feedback that so many Dole Whip fans gave us. Our new recipe reflects all of the things the customers wanted: brighter, refreshing pineapple flavor, creamier texture and overall balanced sweetness for the perfect bite. We know the original retail formula emparted a coconut flavor due to coconut cream so we switched out that ingredient to let the pineapple shine and remove the tree nut allergen as well.”
Here is a look at the ingredients:
If you were disappointed by the coconut flavor the last time around, definitely give this a try again. I’m really happy with this updated recipe and will definitely be seeking this out to satisfy my Dole Whip cravings going forward.
