A Disney representative has confirmed with us that Disney Villains characters are not being discontinued at the parks. They shared with us that while characters rotate seasonally, and there are more villains now during Halloween than during other times of the year, they are not going away. They emphasized that villains remain important character experiences at the parks, and that is not changing. So, to reiterate, this rumor is false. There will be no change to how the villains are typically handled at the parks.
The Instagram account @gothicrosie traced the origins of this rumor to a few videos of the Evil Queen. These videos were the source of the rumor that Disney would be making the Evil Queen seasonal instead of year-round.
In the videos, we see two different Cast Members replying to questions about their potential seasonal absence in character. In the first video shared by @fanasytravelers, the Cast Member doesn't directly answer the question but makes the command to go complain, playfully saying, “Yes, go complain! Tell them you want me, specifically, all year round,” and tells everyone else to do the same.
In the second clip taken by @jozo16, a different Cast Member portraying the Evil Queen says, “Are you soaking up all your time with me before the end of the Halloween season? And my imminent retirement back to my dungeon for an undisclosed period of time.” She goes on to say, “And you can all go and cry to the powers that be in this kingdom that don't rule adequately or fairly…that you can go and cry to them that every day, every moment, that you miss me.” She then gestures to the phone as she says, “And everyone in that little mirror in there as well should complain too.”
