Guests 46 inches and taller are permitted to ride the attraction, as its jerky motion might not be most suitable for guests of younger ages or those who don’t meet the height requirements. The scenery of the ride promotes an immersive experience for guests, and the 12-person vehicle makes guests genuinely feel as if they are embarking on a mysterious journey in the Indiana Jones film series.

9. Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster (22mph)- Disneyland

Based on the Gadget Hackwrench character from the Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers television series, GADGETcoaster, located in Mickey’s Toontown area of Disneyland, reaches a top speed of 22 miles per hour.

Originally opened as Gadget’s Go Coaster in 1993, this coaster, renamed in 2023, is one of Disneyland’s most family-friendly and has served as a great option for a first roller coaster experience for younger guests over the years. Guests 35 inches and taller are able to enjoy this roller coaster for the 44-second ride experience.

8. Goofy’s Sky School (27 mph)- Disney California Adventure

Located in the Paradise Gardens Park area of Disney California Adventure, Goofy’s Sky School is a wild mouse roller coaster full of twists, turns, and dips. Originally opened in 2001 as Mullholland Madness and later reimagined into Goofy’s Sky School, this attraction brings fun for the whole family.

This steel coaster reaches a top speed of 27 miles per hour and is based on Goofy’s Glider, a 1940 Disney short film. Guests 42 inches and taller are permitted to enjoy this attraction, making it a viable option as a first roller coaster for kids.

7. Matterhorn Bobsleds (27 mph)- Disneyland

A Disneyland original, Matterhorn Bobsleds has served as a Disneyland favorite since 1959, just 4 years after the park’s opening. Recognized as the world’s first known tubular steel track roller coaster, Matterhorn Bobsleds has paved the way for modern roller coaster engineering and operation.

The ride’s theming is based on the Matterhorn range of the Alps of Switzerland, and the ride’s physical structure uses forced perception as the engineering depicts a mountain range larger and taller than its actual height of 79 feet. The coaster uses a two-track system with one track being identified as the Tomorrowland Track and the other being identified as the Fantasyland Track. While the Fantasy Track is a bit longer in length, ride cars on both tracks reach a top speed of 27 miles per hour.

6. Space Mountain (35 mph)- Disneyland

Opened in 1977, Space Mountain has served as the pinnacle thrill ride of Disneyland. Guests 40 inches and taller board a space-themed ride car where guests are arranged 2 guests across and 3 guests deep, giving Disneyland’s rendition of Space Mountain (the first iteration of Space Mountain-themed attractions across Disney parks) a larger rocket than other iterations of the ride around the world.

Space Mountain’s legacy has helped grow Disneyland’s Tomorrowland (and other Tomorrowland areas in Disney parks around the globe) with its iconic building structure and Matterhorn bobsled-like ride excitement. Reaching a max speed of 35 miles per hour during the 2-minute and 45-second ride, Space Mountain remains a fan favorite of guests of Disneyland.

5. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (35 mph)- Disneyland

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a family-friendly mine train roller coaster. Guests 40 inches and taller can enjoy this ride, which takes passengers through the rough terrain of a haunted mining town.

Guests venture through the wild west in this coaster, which reaches a top speed of 35 miles per hour. Big Thunder Mountain underwent a fairly significant refurbishment as it was closed from early January to early November 2025, and the attraction will again close in 2026 for even more significant refurbishments. The park has not yet announced an official reopening date following the upcoming closure.

4. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (40 mph)- Disneyland

Opened in November of 2024, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has provided fun for the whole family in place of the former Splash Mountain. The attraction was reimagined into its current state in the Bayou Country of Disneyland and reaches a top speed of 40 miles per hour during its 52-foot drop.

The ride is 10 minutes in duration and can be enjoyed by guests 40 inches and taller. Since its debut in 1989 (originally known as Splash Mountain, later reimagined as Tiana), the log flume ride has served as a crowd favorite at Disneyland.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: BREAKOUT! (40 mph)- Disney California Adventure

Standing a staggering 184 feet tall, Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: BREAKOUT! has been a fan favorite since its opening in 2017. Located at the Avengers Campus (formerly known as Hollywood Land), the ride experiences a top speed of 40 miles per hour during its drop tower ride function.

Replacing The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: BREAKOUT! had some big shoes to fill; however, it has been met with much praise from guests of Disney California Adventure. The ride is 2 minutes in duration and uses the same ride mechanisms as The Tower of Terror as a drop tower attraction.

2. Radiator Springs Racers (40 mph)- Disney California Adventure

Based on the theming of the Disney-Pixar Cars movies, Radiator Springs Racers is a slot car ride designed to hold 6 guests per car as guests race to the finish line against an opposing vehicle. The ride’s waiting queue takes guests through the town of Radiator Springs and begins with a quick pre-show at either Ramone’s House of Body Art or Luigi’s Casa Della Tires.

The race between the two cars vying for first place experiences a series of twists and turns through the Radiator Springs hillside, and the cars reach a top speed of 40 miles per hour. The race is randomized, meaning that the winner of the race will be declared at random. The third-generation technology used for Radiator Springs Racers was originally developed for Test Track at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT, and the attraction underwent a refurbishment in early Fall 2025 to enhance lighting/audio, and also a resurfacing of the track.

1. Incredicoaster (55 mph)- Disney California Adventure

Originally opened in 2001 as California Screamin’ and rethemed in 2018 as Incredicoaster (theming based on The Incredibles movie series), Incredicoaster has been a staple and fan favorite of Disney California Adventure. With a maximum drop of 108 feet and reaching a top speed of 55 miles per hour, this coaster is sure to please roller coaster and thrill-ride fans alike. Incredicoaster has a height requirement of 48 inches.

Incredicoaster has a duration of 2 minutes and 40 seconds, making it one of the longest roller coaster rides in duration for any of the Disney parks around the world. Guests aboard the Incredicoaster enjoy a high-speed loop on the ladder half of the ride. What’s most unique about the Incredicoaster is that there are tunnels throughout the ride displaying scenes from The Incredibles 2 within the tunnels.
