Disney World Changed Security Checkpoint Protocol For Some Guests Arriving at Disney Springs

Security checks at Walt Disney World and Disneyland are commonplace and something you should plan for when arriving at the theme parks. Downtown Disney, the shopping and dining district at Disneyland, also has robust security.

The security at Disney Springs, the shopping and dining district at Walt Disney World, has always been a bit mixed on the process in comparison. Now with these new changes, the security at Disney Springs will be more on par with other Disney experiences.

Disney Springs Security Process

Disney Springs

The security process at Disney Springs has been a bit varied for years, depending on how you are arriving. Guests parking at the Disney Springs parking garages have always had to go through metal detectors and bag searches.

Guests arriving by Disney water transportation also have to go through metal detectors and be subject to bag searches if their bags trigger a response in the metal detectors.

This is pretty standard practice for security at the Disney Parks and shopping areas. But for some reason, guests arriving by Disney Resort bus have never had to go through metal detectors until now.

Disney Springs Adds Security for Guests Arriving by Resort Bus

Disney bus

Disney has now expanded their security measures at Disney Springs to screen guests arriving by Disney Resort buses. Previously, those guests would arrive and just walk past a security dog, but not through metal detectors.

Now, guests arriving at Disney Springs by bus from the Disney World resorts will have to go through metal detectors and be subject to a bag search if their bag is flagged. This does make sense, as this closes a pretty big security loophole. I would recommend arriving a bit earlier now if you have a dining reservation, just in case security lines get long, especially in the evenings.
