Disney Announces Major Changes to Ratatouille Ride at Paris Park, Will These Come to Disney World?

Ratatouille – The Adventure at Disneyland Paris is getting a major refurbishment that will transform the attraction into an entirely new format and experience… one that guests have been asking for.

This attraction was later replicated at EPCOT at Walt Disney World due to its success in Disneyland Paris, which has us wondering, is EPCOT's version next?

Disneyland Paris and EPCOT Offer Nearly Identical Ratatouille Attractions

Ratatouille – The Adventure at Disneyland Paris was the first ride to open honoring everyone's favorite little chef. This attraction opened at Disneyland Paris in 2014 and was a huge hit with guests, with many Disney fans requesting that the ride be brought to the US parks.

Disney listened to the demand, and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure opened in 2021 at EPCOT as part of Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary celebration. This attraction is now one of the most popular in EPCOT, with Lightning Lane reservations for this ride among the most coveted in the park.

The attractions are basically clones of each other, with the only major differences in the exterior of the attractions because of their park locations.

Ratatouille- The Adventure Switching to 2D Format

Ratatouille – The Adventure is closing in October for a major refurbishment that will update the queue, add new props, and switch the attraction from 3D to 2D. Disney Imagineers are working on a “generous” list of technical upgrades and scenic enhancements to offer guests a more immersive experience.

The queue will be enhanced with a new scene depicting a detailed Parisian artist’s studio, which you can see in the concept art above.

New props, enhanced projections, and larger-than-life props and set pieces will be added to key scenes. The attraction has some of these elements already, as you can see above in the fridge scene, so this will likely build on these already impressive moments as the ride moves away from a 3D format.

The attraction will also get a major update to its technical equipment by replacing all video projectors with new state-of-the-art models and enhanced video media. Ratatouille – The Adventure at Disneyland Paris will reopen to guests in spring 2026, so this is a pretty quick turnaround to make these changes.

Will These Upgrades Come to Walt Disney World?

According to Disneyland Paris, the decision to change Ratatouille – The Adventure to 2D was the result of “months of testing and guest surveys,” so this was largely a response to guest feedback along with the technical upgrades needed. Remy's Ratatouille Adventure has also received similar feedback with many guests, myself included, feeling a bit underwhelmed by the 3D aspects of the attraction.

The most impressive moments in Remy's Ratatouille Adventure are when guests come face to face with the larger-than-life set pieces that immerse you in the feeling that you “shrunk down” to the size of a rat. An attraction entirely modeled after that immersion, without relying on 3D effects, would absolutely be preferable. Since the feedback towards the 3D elements of the attraction's EPCOT version is similar, it is entirely possible we might see these changes come to Remy's Ratatouille Adventure.

However, there is about a seven-year gap between the version of the ride opening at Disneyland Paris before it came to EPCOT. Likely, some of these visual media elements and technical advancements needed for the Disneyland Paris version are not quite as urgent at EPCOT, since it is a newer version of the ride. That fact alone does lessen the urgency to change the attraction, at least right away.

On the other hand, it also makes these changes easier at EPCOT if the main requirement is moving the attraction away from a 3D experience by implementing more set pieces to transform the ride into 2D.

Remys queue

As for the queue update Disneyland Paris is receiving, we already have a similar scene like the one described in our version at EPCOT. So this is yet another change we don't need to see at EPCOT, which also makes this a much easier update to do.

It is also common for the US Disney Parks to follow the patterns of their international counterparts. The version we know as Soarin' Around the World originally debuted at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016 as a different version called Soaring Over the Horizon. The Soarin' Around the World version was then implemented in the US parks and replaced the original Soarin' Over California in Disney California Adventure.

I would love to see Remy's Ratatouille Adventure become a 2D attraction. I hope Walt Disney World makes these changes to our version as well.
