Everyone Laughs at My Favorite Disneyland Snack, But I Stand By It

My favorite Disney snack might not be the most photogenic or trendiest treat in the park, but it’s a tried-and-true classic rooted in Disneyland history that I never skip.

I’m not exactly known as a foodie, but I know a great snack when I taste one, and this is one you’ve got to try. My friends love to tease me for making a beeline for it every visit, but trust me, it never disappoints. At Mickey Visit, we bring you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including looks at new rides and the best foods at Disneyland. That includes this tip today.

Don’t Skip The Cheddar Cheese Stick

Corn Dog

The Cheddar Cheese Stick that is hand-dipped in batter to match the Corn Dog is my favorite snack option at Disneyland. I am a vegetarian and love the taste of this delicious snack. This is really the only option for vegetarians to enjoy a hand-dipped corn dog, since there are no hand-dipped tofu dogs available at Disneyland.

But a hunk of cheese in hand-dipped batter? Yes, please. The outside is golden and crisp, and the inside has stretchy, satisfying cheese. This is a Disneyland comfort food that I never skip when we visit the theme park.

Corn Dog Castle

The Cheddar Cheese Stick can be found at Corn Dog Castle, right near Goofy’s Sky School, which also serves hand-dipped corn dogs. You can use mobile order at this spot, and there is great seating in the shade just to the left of the food stand. And you can ONLY find the Cheddar Cheese Stick at Disney California Adventure. Plenty of people walk right by Corn Dog Castle without realizing it offers one of the best snacks in the park.

Part of why this treat is so special, especially for those of us who don’t eat meat, is the fact that it is rooted in Disneyland history, and we can actually be a part of it. We know that other members of our Mickey Visit team also swear by the hand-dipped Disneyland corn dogs. They also recommend the hot link corn dog, which brings a spicier option to the hand-dipped lineup.

The History of Disney’s Hand-Dipped Corn Dogs

corn dog at Disneyland

Hand-dipped corn dogs have been an iconic treat at Disneyland since the 1980s, when the Little Red Wagon on Main Street, U.S.A. started serving made-to-order corn dogs instead of pre-frozen versions. It quickly earned a cult following, becoming one of the most popular treats in the park. Guests at the time enjoyed watching the corn dogs being dipped and fried right in front of them, which was something that set Disney apart from typical theme park food at the time.

Of course, now the Little Red Wagon isn’t the only place in Disneyland to sell hand-dipped corn dogs. Corn Dog Castle in Disney California Adventure expanded the lineup, and the Cheddar Cheese Stick was introduced as a vegetarian-friendly alternative, giving more guests the chance to enjoy the signature hand-dipped batter these corn dogs are famous for.

This is why the Cheddar Cheese Stick is one of my favorite snacks at Disneyland; it’s tied to a long tradition in Disneyland history, and it’s one I get to enjoy!
