Free Disney Channel Throwback Events at Disneyland
In the 2000s, the future of Walt Disney Animation Studios was uncertain, with films like Home on the Range and Chicken Little failing to capture audience's attention. At the same time, Disney's partnership with Pixar was on rocky ground.

As such, the many arms of Disney's synergy machine, which usually focused on magnifying animated hits, had to find a different source of cross-platform promotional opportunities. Disney Channel delivered, and the synergy machine followed suit, transforming television projects with high ratings into cultural phenomenons with the full backing of nearly every department of The Walt Disney Company from consumer products to music to theme parks. High School Musical, Hannah Montana, and other sensations stemmed from this unique period in Disney history.
Fast-forward 20 years later and nostalgia for Disney Channel's 2000s-era shows and movies is now seemingly at an all-time high. Disneyland Resort is leaning into this demand with events like the recent Disneyland After Dark: Disney Channel Nite and an upcoming addition just announced for Downtown Disney District.

A new, limited-time entertainment offering called the Disney+ Throwback Dance Party will take place at the Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage and Lawn on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from March 27 – June 7, 2026, at 12, 1, 2, and 3 PM.
Formally, the offering bares the name of Disney+ rather than Disney Channel, but the properties promoted for the activation are all Disney Channel hits now streaming on Disney+:
- The Proud Family
- The Cheetah Girls
- High School Musical
- Hannah Montana
- Camp Rock
- Descendants
- Zombies
During the Disney+ Throwback Dance Party, guests can expect music from these Disney Channel hits and a special photo-op. Most of these are from the 2000s, with Descendants and Zombies coming from the 2010s.
Downtown Disney LIVE! has become the district's go-to spot for outdoor entertainment, having recently hosted Halloween movie nights and country music concerts.
Camp Rock and Descendants Party at Walt Disney World
On the east coast, Disney Springs will host a similar party later this year as part of Walt Disney World's Cool KIDS' SUMMER.
A dance party featuring music from this summer's new movies Camp Rock 3 and Descendants: Wicked Wonderland will take place at Disney Springs Marketplace select nights from May 26 – September 8, 2026.
